A statement Monday said the Board of Directors of the bank has named Alhaji Mohammed Lawal as the Acting Managing Director of Fidelity Bank Plc.
Until his appointment, Lawal was the Executive Director, North of the bank.The board said Lawal’s appointment was “with immediate effect subject to regulatory approval.”
The statement further said “The Bank reassures all its stakeholders including over 400,000 shareholders of its continued seamless services.”
It could be recalled that the substantive MD is under arrest by the anti-graft agency over investigations into the $115million 2015 election bribery scandal.
Former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison Madueke and her son as well as some top officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission,INEC are under investigation.A former Chairman of INEC is reportedly linked to the scam.
Aside from the MD of Fidelity Bank, some officials who helped in carrying out the heist are said to be under investigation.
The management of the bank however issued a statement last week to the effect that actually the bank indeed reported the transactions in question to the relevant regulatory authorities..
